the living room.
The Living Room is a series of intimate late-night social gatherings on the floor of Root Division's Frank-Ratchye Project Space. Taking place on the third Friday of each month at 9 pm, the "happenings" center on community, music, and art and follow a rotating theme rather than a formal program.
The idea is to temporarily transform the loft into an improvised living room, repurposing raw provisional materials like U Haul moving blankets into oversized beanbags. The goal is to create a warm, domestic, informal environment where people can sit together, listen to music, and converse. It is meant to feel relaxed and welcoming rather than like a gallery or club.
This first edition shares the theme RICE. Rice appears across so many cultures and kitchens that it feels like common ground. Everyone eats rice. Everyone knows how to make rice. In this context, it is less about symbolism and more about connection. It is a simple way to point out the overlap of different communities, especially right now. RICE becomes a shared reference for gathering together.
The Living Room is imagined as an ongoing social project, creating a slow and safe space for connection and community building
